As became apparent here - when making a modulation connection ctrl turns the modulation into a bipolar one on Windows while on macOS cmd key that translates to ctrl on Wndows allows fine adjusting the modulation amount with mouse wheel. I believe the latter is the intended behavior.

on mac ctrl-click (control) gives you the contextual dropdown menu
the fineadjustment mofidier key on the mac is cmd (command)
that’s the one with the propeller design, next to the spacebar

Sure, I assumed that it’s general knowledge that cmd is a mac counterpart for ctrl modifier on windows. I’ll edit the post.
