Unbalanced sound in Vital (left sound bar louder than the right) [solved]

Dear community, I am new here and have a (maybe too) simple question, but I cannot find the answer on my own for now. After opening an old Ableton file of mine with Vital installed I realised that the sound on the left part of my headphones was louder than that on the right side.

When opening Vital, I realised that the issue is coming directly from the synth - because the volume bars are showing strong inequality between the signals/channels. I do not remember, when it happened and what I might have pressed or tweaked accidentally. But now I want to get both signals equal, left and right volume bars.

Does anybody know how do I fix this now?

(The issue is not with the panning, because these parameters stay right in the middle.)

Hard to say, are you able to save and post the preset ?

That sound looks heavily phased and likely causing the imbalance in the stereo field
Looks likes it’s mostly the Classic Fade

If you want both L and R to be perfectly balanced you will need a mono sound, so turn Spread to zero.

Otherwise, I would take a closer look at what your doing to that wavetable or osc, modulations, etc.

Edit: it could be other things depending on the fxs you have, etc. But if you turn off the Classic Fade osc and the issue is resolved, you know it’s something related to that osc

Oh! The Spread was indeed the issue causing the imbalance! Thank you so much :slight_smile: I am so relieved that the project still can be saved.

No problem at all! if you still want to keep the sound stereo feel free to post the patch there might be other tweaks that can help the balance without having to make it mono

Hello again! Unfortunately, because I am still a “new user” I cannot upload files as attachments (see image below) yet.

But, frankly speaking, I was using one of the classical presets without changing much (Remedial Shikari). What bothers me a bit in this present is that the sound seems a bit too distorted and loud in higher frequencies, whilst remaining pleasantly deep and bright in the deeper frequencies. (or maybe it’s just my headphones?)

I also hear quite clearly an unpleasant “click” tone every time a new midi signal goes in; and I also cannot remove it via other means than using a filter or an equalizer in the effects section, which in return affects the overall range of frequencies and atmosphere… I also tried to use a filter or equaliser (or both) afterwards in Ableton but I also do not like the result much.

And similarly when I change both envelops and/or the LFO in any way it does not affect the clicking sound somehow…

If you @LarryHotbottoms (or someone else) could pinpoint a solution to the above mentioned issues I would really appreciate it again :slight_smile:

Yeah as @HermanVonElsewhere mentions, please confirm if adding a few (3/4 ms) of attack time to the main envelop helps the click at note start?
It could be a combination of the env and also filters/modulations “snapping” to the start position, if that makes sense

Also @natalya.grinina i notice you like Sync warp, keep in mind when the knob is too the left the waveform can become unbalanced with simpler oscillators (busy wavetables work better) as the Classic Fade waveform is no longer starting at a zero crossing, it could be the Sync warp causing the click. Just worth a shot.

As for distortion, you can try a pre filter on the distortion module, taming the highs (1-5k) before it hits the distortion to see if that helps.
I would also turn that Filter 1 resonance down, as it’s sending a concentrated amount of frequencies into the distortion, which will be probably a bit much. You can also put the delay after the distortion to send less sound through it. I’d try a balance of these solutions to get your desired outcome, a little bit of each is probably just too much added together in the distortion
