Hey there!
I think this is a case of not seeing the forest for the trees: All I am looking for is a simple lead sound (not too harsh) with a controllable vibrato (or tremolo) via the mod wheel.
I’d be very happy if it sounded something like the stab right here on full vibrato (https://youtu.be/YbgJ9mokZo8?si=p4WqyyBVwSTeWBwp&t=36)
I did find these helpful videos on how to map the vibrato amount to the mod wheel, however it did not sound right when I tried to apply it to presets I liked, and I can’t seem to figure out how to fix it
Do you know of lead presets which have the mod wheel vibrato already baked in? Thanks in advance
Heya
You’ll likely want some more nuanced control?
Firstly, you’ll likely want an LFO mapped to Global or Osc pitch for the vibrato itself.
Second, I would then map the mod wheel to the vibrato modulation amount and also the speed of the lfo.
This way using the mod wheel will increase the amount of vibrato that occurs, while also increasing its speed as you do. Thereby giving you more expressive control for the notes.
It will take some fine tuning to find the little niches of timing that create the sound you’re looking for.
You can also explore the matrix as well to see if adjust the modulation curves of the mappings recreates it more precisely.
OR
Try simply finding a nice Pitch Bend range and automating the wheel instead. A bit more tedious and in the box, but likely the easiest way to replicate.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the answer!
I haven’t thought about modulating the frequency as well. I’ll definitely look into that and see if I like the sound.
Unfortunately that was not exactly my question: I am interested to know about resources on how I would go about forming a good lead sound in the first place or where to look for good presets with the mod wheel already in place or an easy way to implement it.
You could help with that as well?
Ah gotcha, my misunderstanding
For tutorial content, it kinda depends on genre and preference, there’s a lot of good youtubers out there

If you are familiar with Serum, Synthacker has great videos that you can translate to Vital.
Honestly search around for what you like
For presets I’d recommend the factory ones, they have some fun modulations but there’s tons of free preset in the forum as well!
For easy implementation, you’ll have to do some mapping and save your own copy of the preset - if editing an existing preset.
Hope this helps!

Stranjah’s video on leads did the trick for me for now.
Here is what I came up with.
Thanks!
