Cannot open old presets

2 years ago, I created a few presets. I unfortunately didn’t have time to produce for that time till today. When I now try to open them in any vital version or drag them upon the plugin slot in FL Studio, I get the message “Beta access has expired, download a new version”, or cannot open them because they are .fst files instead of .vital. Any help is appreciated!

That’s an FL issue, nothing to do with Vital

Sorry, I should’ve been more specific. The “Beta access expired, download a new version” message comes from Vital when I drag the preset upon it, not from FL Studio. When saving a new preset (which always happens as .fst), I am able to open it because it seems to be saved by a newer version of Vital. So the .fst ending is not the problem as I realized.

Have you tried downloading a new version?

Yes, I tried all of them. Still the same error. I use the .dll files.

I’ve never seen that error so I suspect that it’s still an FL issue. Does it happen on the standalone or other hosts?

Yes, it happens on the standalone application as well! Thank you for staying with me

What’s your platform? On Windows it’s not possible to drag and drop presets on the GUI. The only way to load a single preset is to choose Open External Preset in the hamburger menu. Does that work for you?

If you copy the presets to your user presets folder do they work there?

I’m on Linux and use FL Studio through Wine, which works well. Before I switched from Windows to Linux, I was able to pull .fst files upon the GUI as well, so it shouldn’t be an OS problem. When I click “Open External Presets” and go to the folder with the presets (I tried the standard plugin folder as well as custom locations), they do not show up because the end with .fst, and Vital likely expects .vital files. Still, I don’t think it has to do with the ending or OS, for when I currently export a preset (with ending .fst) and drag it upon the GUI, it loads as it should. I guess my presets are just too old or something.

Vital doesn’t read presets in that format, it only supports its native .vital format. If you’ve drag and dropped .fst files to open presets then FL has processed those since those are FL saved states. So you’re facing FL issue, not a Vital issue.

You might want to ask Claude if it could extract .vital presets from those files.

Thank you, I’ll definitely try that out!
Still, it seems strange to me that Vital even loads the “Beta access expired” page, because that means FL Studio translates the data correctly into a for Vital readable format. Otherwise Vital should not load but an error would occur beforehand.
Also, this comment on Reddit suggests that the Beta-Access thematic actually is a thing.

You may also just try setting your system clock to two years (or around the creation of the file anyway) back and see if that helps.

That’s a smart idea, thank you!
