The Vital FX are already there, programmed, and they’re great. They work better than a lot of default plugins in my DAW for the purpose they serve. So, since they’re already made, why not make them into plugins usable outside of Vital? I would really like to see this idea become a reality.
I know it’s not Vital, but Surge XT soft synth has a standalone VST effects package that might fit your needs. Worth a look?
if audio input were added as an oscillator source, it would knock my socks off.

That would be amazing. I believe FXs are always on, not only kicking in when note on is triggered, so they would still work for regular audio, since treating external audio as oscillator would imply Vital still tracking note on and note off in order to to trigger envelopes, modulation, etc.
I’ve gone over this like a dead horse, but youre right, the fx are in theory always on, and the input side of the effects is essentially a dual mono floating point number, so i don’t see why any other dual mono set of floating point numbers (audio in) couldn’t be arithmetically added to that, unless there’s some kind of unique block processing is happening to the two numbers that are coming out of vitals oscillator bus. I guess there would need to be some kind of toggle or knob to blend that in. that’s just if you wanted fx, but audio input really should be an oscillator source, but then one might want some envelope follower, which could probably be accomplished by using the env follower in the compressor algorithm. (to use audio input to trigger things such as new notes or other magic) probably a Vital 2 is in order, if those features are wanted by Matt. And Matt is smarter than I am so he should be able to meet and exceed this idea. but as it stands, vital 1 should technically be able to receive audio input directly to the fx buss, so the best bet is to find out who is in the leading position with respect to vitalium and do a feature request. If I knew the VST api and Juce or whatever, I would give it a shot.
